What to Bring to Your Bridal Appointment: Your Complete Guide
What to Bring to Your Bridal Appointment: Your Complete Guide
So, the big moment has arrived—you’re about to step into the world of bridal gowns and say yes to the one. But before you walk through the doors of our Australian-made bridal atelier, you might be wondering: what should I bring to my bridal appointment?
At The First Last, we want your experience to feel effortless, exciting, and unforgettable. Here’s our guide to preparing for your appointment, so you can feel confident, comfortable, and ready to find your dream dress.
1. Your Guest List: Choose Your Support Crew
Less is more when it comes to guests. We recommend bringing two to three of your closest people—the ones who truly know you, understand your style, and will celebrate your choices wholeheartedly.
This intimate group will help you feel supported without overwhelming your decision. Once you’ve said yes to the dress, you’re more than welcome to book a follow-up appointment to showcase your gown to the wider bridal party or family members who’d love a sneak peek.
2. Accessories & Sentimental Pieces
You don’t need to have your shoes, jewellery, or hairstyle decided before your appointment—your dress will usually guide those choices. However, if you have a meaningful heirloom, like a veil, brooch, or piece of jewellery that you’d love to incorporate, bring it along. It can be a beautiful starting point when selecting your gown.
3. The Right Foundations: Hosiery & Undergarments
For the smoothest fitting experience, we suggest:
Flesh-toned seamless underwear
A strapless bra or inserts
Any shapewear you’re considering wearing on the day
These simple pieces ensure nothing distracts from the silhouette of your gown, so you can truly see how it’s meant to look and feel.
4. Hair & Makeup Considerations
While it’s tempting to arrive in full glam, we kindly ask that you avoid heavy makeup, fake tan, or products that could transfer onto our gowns. This helps us keep every sample pristine for each bride.
5. Questions you’ll be asked
Your stylist will ask a few key questions during your appointment—these help us guide you towards gowns that feel perfectly you:
Your Venue: Whether you’re marrying in a vineyard, on the coast, or in a ballroom, your setting can inspire the fabrics, silhouettes, and details we recommend.
Your Budget: This isn’t about pushing you beyond your means. It’s about ensuring we show you designs that align with your comfort zone, including whether you’d like to explore customisations or a fully bespoke gown made right here in our Australian atelier..
Your Bridal Party: We’ll want to know who’s helping you on the day—whether adjusting your train before the aisle walk or perfecting your bustle before your first dance. Ideally, bring this person to your final fitting so they feel confident in their role.

Your bridal appointment is one of the most special milestones in your wedding journey. By bringing the right people, a few essentials, and an open mind, you’ll set yourself up for a beautiful, stress-free experience.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bridal Appointments
1. What should I bring to my first bridal appointment in Australia?
Bring two to three supportive guests, seamless nude underwear, a strapless bra, and any sentimental accessories like a family heirloom. You don’t need shoes, jewellery, or hair styling sorted yet—your dress will usually guide those choices.
2. Can I wear makeup or fake tan to a bridal fitting?
We kindly ask you to avoid using heavy makeup or any fake tan to protect the gowns.
3. Do I need to know my wedding accessories before choosing a dress?
Not at all! Most brides choose their accessories after selecting the gown. However, if you have a special piece you’d love to incorporate—such as a veil, jewellery, or shoes—it can be helpful to bring it along.
4. Who should I bring with me to a wedding dress appointment?
Invite only two or three people you trust completely. They should know your style, support your decisions, and celebrate the moment with you. Once you’ve chosen your gown, you can always schedule a second appointment to show the dress to a larger group.
5. Why does my bridal stylist need to know my venue and budget?
Your venue helps guide which fabrics, silhouettes, and details will best complement your wedding setting. Your dress budget ensures we only show you gowns within your comfort zone, minimising stress and helping you explore customisations or bespoke designs confidently.
6. What happens after I say yes to the dress?
Once you’ve chosen your gown, we’ll keep you up to date on the timeline for completion of your gown. Once you have ordered your dress, we recommend booking your alterations (even though you may not need it) to ensure you have enough time before your big day. we will then schedule your final fitting where you are welcomed to bring the few key people you would like to be involved in your final fitting. If someone in your bridal party will be helping with the train, veil, or accessories, we recommend they attend your final fitting too so your stylist can walk them through handling the pieces with care and to ensure it is styled to perection.
